My dogs Romeo and Zelda are my children. I love them so much. Romeo turned 8 in April and Zelda will be 8 in September. The reason for my listing is because of my vet costs for Romeo. He is the sweetest, most affectionate, lovable dog. Everyone falls in love with Romeo the minute they meet him, and of course, Romeo falls in love with everyone the minute he meets them.
Unfortunately, Romeo has a lot of health problems. He has a thyroid problem that requires medication for the rest of his life, he has Cushing's disease and he has to take medication for that for the rest of his life. The Cushing's disease has caused him to be hospitalized three times in the last three years. He has to have regular blood work to make sure that the Cushing's is stable and that the medication is not harming him in any way. He just recently went on heart medication for his heart murmur.
Last summer he started having disc problems in his neck. The disc was pinching the nerve and causing him extreme pain. We were in and out of the vet's office almost every other day and once he had to be hospitalized for ten days. During the time he was hospitalized they had him on three different kinds of pain medication, along with a steriod. Even with all of the pain medication he was still having at least one episode of pain a day. It was the most agonizing thing for him and for me to see him in that much pain. Every time it happened I became hysterical. I didn't know what to do for him. I just wanted to stop the pain for him.
I took him to a neurologist who said that he could do the surgery on his neck. The quote was $8,200!!! The MRI was $2,700 alone! That's California for you! I was just at my wits end when the vet suggested acupuncture. Luckily, there was a vet near my house that praticed acupuncture so we started going for treatments. For the first couple of months or so we had to go twice a week for treatments, then once a week, and eventually every other week. Each treatment was $150.00. You do the math.
In May I moved from California back to Nashville (I had lived in Nashville before for 14 years). I figured his health care would be much less expensive in Nashville than in California.
I still have thousands and thousands of dollars in vet bills so if you find it in your heart to want to help Romeo's cause please let me know and I will send you my address. If you can or want to donate by credit card you can go to www.nashvillepetfinders.org and click on the Donate icon on the home page. Just put that's it's for Romeo.
I appreciate anything that you can offer!
Thanks so much,
Sonya
